Start here: what AI is
Who builds AI, what it really does when it answers you, and where it falls down. No jargon, no code.
You'll be able to: explain what generative AI is in plain words · see where AI already shows up in your day · name its main limits: invented facts, bias, stale knowledge · recognize the companies and labs behind the tools

Use AI assistants well
Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot, from each company's own lessons. Pick one, learn its features, keep your private information out.
You'll be able to: set up Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot · choose the right assistant for a task · use files, memory and custom instructions · keep personal information out of chats

Prompting: ask better, get better
The habits that separate a vague answer from a useful one, taught by OpenAI, Google and Anthropic in their own words.
You'll be able to: write prompts with a task, context and format · give examples and ask for step-by-step reasoning · refine an answer instead of starting over · spot and reduce made-up answers

AI at work
From one person saving an hour a day to a small team using AI safely: what to hand off, what to check and how to roll it out.
You'll be able to: pick tasks worth handing to AI, and ones to keep · build repeatable workflows · review AI output before it reaches a client · plan a small, safe rollout for a team

Build with AI APIs
Call a model from your own code: OpenAI, Gemini and Claude side by side, then Microsoft's open course to put it together. Some Python helps.
You'll be able to: call a model from code with an API key · stream, structure and check what comes back · add tools and document search (RAG) · keep costs down and measure quality

Agents
Software that plans, uses tools and acts on its own. Start with the design essay, connect tools with MCP, then build and test real agents.
You'll be able to: explain what makes a system an agent · connect models to tools and data with MCP · use planning, memory and multi-agent patterns · test, limit and supervise what agents do

AI safety and responsible use
Protect yourself today (privacy, scams, deepfakes), then the bigger questions: fairness, accountability and the risks of more capable AI.
You'll be able to: protect your privacy when using AI · spot deepfakes and voice-clone scams · understand bias, accountability and transparency · follow the debate on advanced AI risks

How we chose
Official sources first. Every course comes from the company or organization that publishes it: Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, universities and Canadian non-profits. The summaries are ours.
Free unless marked. Required steps are free. A few paid courses appear as optional extras, always labelled. We earn nothing from any of them.
Checked by hand. Every link was opened on 9 October 2026. Where a provider gives no length, ours is an estimate, marked "about". Spot a problem? Tell the newsroom.
