Personal information
Personal information is any information about an identifiable individual: name, email, face, voice, location, health details, purchase history, even an opinion about someone. Canadian privacy laws protect it, including when it is used to train or run AI.
In one line, for a 12-year-old
Personal information is anything that could tell someone who you are or things about you.
An example
A photo of your class with name tags visible, pasted into a chatbot, contains personal information about every child in it.
Why it matters to people
Once personal information is shared with an AI service it can be stored, reviewed or used for training under that company's rules. Share the minimum, and never other people's information without their consent.
