AI watermarking
AI watermarking hides a signal in AI-generated images, audio, video or text so software can later recognise it as AI-made. Some watermarks are invisible; most can be weakened by cropping, editing or re-recording.
In one line, for a 12-year-old
A watermark is a hidden "made by AI" stamp inside a picture or sound.
An example
Google adds an invisible SynthID watermark to images made with its tools, which a checker can detect.
Why it matters to people
Watermarks help, but a missing watermark doesn't prove something is real. Combine them with provenance records and plain common sense.
