Voice cloning uses AI to copy a person's voice from a short recording, so a computer can say anything in that voice. It has real uses, such as restoring the voice of someone who lost it to illness, and serious abuses, such as phone scams.

A grandparent gets a panicked call in a grandchild's cloned voice asking for bail money. A family code word would have exposed it.
Why it matters to people
Agree on a family code word, hang up and call back on a number you know, and never send money because of a voice alone.
