AI governance
AI governance is the set of laws, policies, standards and internal rules that decide how AI is developed and used — and who is accountable. It happens at every level: international agreements, national laws, company policies and a school's rules for classroom tools.
In one line, for a 12-year-old
AI governance is all the rules people make about how AI should be used, from countries down to classrooms.
An example
A small accounting firm writes a one-page AI policy: which tools are approved, what client data must never be pasted in, and who checks the output.
Why it matters to people
Good governance gives people a say in technology that affects them. Canada has a federal Minister responsible for AI; our AI Ministry tracker follows what the government announces.
